Writing for the web

Start to plan your first few blog post in each. What will you say, what will you comment on? What information will you need and where will your get it? What images will you use to illustrate each post? Is there any video or audio you can include? Will you need to speak to anyone else?
Think about how you are going to write your blogs. Remember to gather sources and other good links – try to make sure each blog post has several relevant links to other website sources.
Writing tips
To write for the web you must repeat the key words used in a Google and use links to sites that use similar keywords in related content.
Write half as much as for print, bullet point lists and write the most important things first. This is called the inverted pyramid. But avoid the generic first paragraph of print news and pack the first line with proper nouns and key words.
You must get your message across in the few paragraphs the reader can see without scrolling. That is usually only three or four paragraphs. That means even a longer article needs three sentence summary at the start.
Break longer pieces of text into chunks, with a sub-heading. Each must stand alone and make sense to a reader landing there from a search engine.
Take the six Ws or Rudyard Kipling’s six honest serving men (who, what, where, when, how and why) and put them in order of importance.
All six Ws should be included but you must decide the most important one or two and put them first (often who did what). Place the others next in order of importance and then put any additional background information or context.
